Overview
This project focuses on re-roofing a charming Mt Roskill brick home and its detached outbuilding, likely built in the late 1930s in an English Domestic Revival / Tudor-influenced style, with a steep gabled tiled roof and a prominent chimney. The textured brick façade and arched gable detailing add period character, while the home’s compact, well-proportioned form creates strong street presence and timeless appeal.
A new cold-ventilated roof system was designed, integrating breathable waterproof protection, continuous passive ventilation, vapour control, and insulation. This build-up manages temperature and vapour movement, helps reduce humidity and mould risk, improves indoor air quality, and supports energy savings, enhancing comfort and wellbeing while extending the service life of the roof substrate.
The original chimney and apron flashings, executed in lead, were re-designed and upgraded to 0.80 mm copper to improve performance and minimise future maintenance.
The steel dormer cover was replaced with a 0.60 mm copper tray installed using the standing seam technique, properly connected to the gutter and gutter valley for correct water drainage.
Premium made-in-Italy 0.80 mm half-round copper gutters were installed with brackets fixed directly to the rafters, providing a stronger, higher-performing system than commonly used alternatives. All copper component joints were brazed and sealed using the standing seam technique, ensuring long-term watertightness and structural integrity.
