Overview
The house, known as “Bramcote,” was originally built for Richard and Amy Hellaby in 1901–1902, to a design by Arthur Lewitt Ferneyhough (1872–1956).
The roof restoration at Florence Court—a heritage Edwardian-style residence—was completed with a strong focus on preserving architectural integrity while improving long-term performance.
The original Marseille clay tile roof was replaced with new Made-in-Italy tiles of the same profile to maintain visual continuity and deliver a long service life. The original crested ridge tiles and pinnacles were meticulously cleaned, repaired, and reinstalled. A new micro-ventilated roof system was incorporated, combining breathable waterproof protection with continuous passive ventilation to promote airflow and better manage summer heat and moisture.
The valleys were fabricated from premium Italian 0.80 mm copper, providing increased durability. All copper joints were brazed, ensuring long-term watertightness and structural integrity.
The original lead chimney flashings were carefully renewed, keeping both the form and material true to the building’s historic character. The entire project was carried out in accordance with conservation requirements, protecting the heritage value of one of Auckland’s notable architectural homes.
