Overview
Built around 1930, this historic home is a notable example of the Arts and Crafts architectural style. The restoration involved replacing the original Marseille clay tile roofs on the main house and dependance with new clay tiles sourced from Italy to maintain architectural harmony and improve longevity. A custom colour was developed by the manufacturer to meet a specific client request.
A new cold-ventilated roof system was designed, integrating breathable waterproof protection, continuous passive ventilation, vapour control, and insulation. This build-up manages temperature and vapour movement, helps reduce humidity and mould risk, improves indoor air quality, and supports energy savings, enhancing comfort and wellbeing while extending the service life of the roof substrate.
The original lead chimney flashings and apron flashings were meticulously replaced, keeping the forms and materials true to the home’s historic character. Valley and other key junctions traditionally executed in lead were redesigned and upgraded to 0.80mm copper to improve performance and minimise future maintenance.
Premium Made-in-Italy 0.80 mm half-round copper gutters were installed with brackets fixed directly to the rafters, providing a stronger, higher-performing system than commonly used alternatives. All copper component joints were brazed and sealed with standing seams technique, ensuring long-term watertightness and structural integrity.
